Characterisation of a pixelated detector

The French National Centre for Space Studies (CNES) called on ATRON Metrology to train the artificial intelligence of a Timepix detector to recognise particles and determine their energy.

Description

The Timepix chip enables pixels to be read-out with high spatial resolution and contrast. Combined with a semiconductor detector, which converts radiation into detectable electrical signals, it provides a new solution for various imaging applications.

Subjected to electron beams of different energies delivered by ATRON Metrology, the aim of the experiment was to train the detector's artificial intelligence to recognise traces in order to distinguish particles and determine their energy.

This is a crucial step for this detector before it takes flight and sees cosmic particles smiling!
